About My Work

I recently had the opportunity to edit a short film directed by University of Arizona associate Will Holst. Will is the Director of Marketing/Communication at the UA College of Nursing and wrote the screenplay for the sci-fi inspired love story, titled Mind Over Time. The project was produced during quarantine with a small but highly talented cast and crew. Shot in 4K with a tight deadline for completion, it presented challenges for storage and system requirements. The decision was made to edit in Adobe Premiere Pro on an Apple iMac using proxy footage to streamline the process. It was a simple step to bring the 4K footage into Premiere and have it generate the proxies. I was amazed at how little difference there was in quality between the full resolution clips and their proxy counterparts, aside from the big difference in file size. The proxies allowed for fluid editing that was both fast and efficient. This allowed me to concentrate on the storytelling and not be concerned about computing power. The seamless integration with other Adobe software, like After Effects, meant that I could do all the visual effect (VFX) shots required for the film with ease.  Whew! Once the editing and VFX were complete, the project was handed off to a colorist and audio engineer for post work. The final film has been very well received and is currently making the festival circuit. The experience was truly rewarding for me. I love telling stories and enjoy working with others to bring their dreams to life. Mind Over Time was a team effort and together we were able to craft a compelling and entertaining story that resonates with audiences.
